What a great, accidental campground visit this gem of a state park was for us! Sitting on Moosehead Lake, there are a lot of campsites with lake views/access. Unfortunately, since our visit was impromptu, we were not lucky enough to snag one of these spots. There is a shared common beach area with a playground and picnic tables that we were able to utilize and watch the sunset. We stayed at campsite #29, which was a “large” campsite (they have a variety of sizes and RV accommodating sites). There was also a shared comfort station with flushing toilets and showers (I think 10 total). The bathrooms on the campsite loops are pit toilets but were kept very clean and relatively bug free! We ultimately stayed here for two nights and very much enjoyed our stay. There are many other hikes outside of the state park that the rangers recommended, but we chose to be lazy for our day here and did the light 2-mile (4 total) walk throughout the campsite and by the lake. The playground also offered us an opportunity t do some simple workouts (pull-ups, dips, push-ups). Many people bring their kayaks, canoes, and boats and launch in the park onto Moosehead Lake. Renting canoes and kayaks in the town (Greenville) about 16 miles away is also possible. At this point in our trip, we were also in dire need of doing laundry; the comfort station had large sinks that we used to wash our clothes and then hung dry them at our campsite. Overall, this is a great, well-cared for state park and camping option. We would recommend to others!
